Matt Stanton - Barambah Organics

In this episode, we’ll be hearing from Matt Stanton, Chief Executive of Barambah Organics, a leading organic dairy business in Australia, with private equity and family ownership.

Matt shares with us how vertical integration and end-to-end control of the business allows Barambah Organics to produce “how dairy is meant to be”. He discusses managing the tension between purpose and short-term profit, why stakeholder capitalism matters to him, and how his own thinking has changed over time. He also discusses why they used one approach for developing their purpose and a different one for their strategy – even though both ran somewhat in parallel.

Our guest is Graham Vidler, Chief Executive. Confederation of Passenger Transport UK. The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (or CPT) is the trade body for the bus and coach industries in the UK.

Graham joined the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) as CEO in May 2019. CPT is the trade association for the UK’s bus and coach industries, with members providing around 95% of UK bus services and the majority of UK coach services. Graham’s focus has been on transforming CPT to have a clearer, stronger voice on behalf of its members.

His previous roles include a number of senior policy and communication roles in the financial services sector, Head of Policy at Which? and a senior researcher in the House of Commons Library. In all of these roles he’s sought to bring simplicity and clarity and a strong focus on customer outcomes.

He discusses the value of joining a movement – rather than trying to create one around your offering, how they use “no money, no legals” social contracts to create the potential for real change, and how they use silence and simple questions and silence to reveal the underlying constraints that keep an organisation from making these changes.
