In this episode, I’ll be joined by Mike Scott, Senior Partner at Cripps, a Top 100 law firm based in London and the Southeast. Mike describes the 18-month journey they went on to clarify their firm purpose and develop a strategy to support it. He discusses the sort of external support they used – and why. He also shares the critical first step he took on that journey.
Mike Scott is the Senior Partner at Cripps. The Covid lockdowns provided an opportunity for Mike, newly elected as Senior Partner in 2020, to focus his board on the core purpose and values of the firm before creating a new ambitious vision and 5 year strategy for the future. This involved a long process of consultation with internal and external stakeholders in order to identify what truly mattered to both groups. As a result, everyone was already heading in the right direction when the time came to launch the firm's purpose, vision and re-brand earlier this year.
Mike has been with Cripps since he started his legal career as a trainee solicitor in 1994 so he knows the business well but he draws inspiration from constantly talking to others both inside and outside the business. He is a strong believer in collaborative and consultative leadership, drawing from a diverse range of sources before reaching decisions. He uses his skills as a litigator and mediator to leave no line of argument unexplored and to find a way to overcome all and any challenges along the way. Almost 30 years into his career at Cripps, Mike loves the firm more than ever and never tires of the excitement and challenge of driving the business onwards and upwards.
