Our guest is Matthew Stanton from Barambah Organics, a leading organic dairy business in Australia with 3 farms, 2 factories processing Milk, Yogurt and Cheese and a distribution network supplying Independent and National retailers. Its purpose is ‘how dairy is meant to be’ and has 2 major brands being Barambah Organics and five:am.
He shares with us how vertical integration and end-to-end control of the business allows Barambah Organics to produce “how dairy is meant to be”. He discusses managing the tension between purpose and short-term profit, why stakeholder capitalism matters to him, and how his own thinking has changed over time. He also discusses why they used one approach for developing their purpose and a different one for their strategy – even though both ran somewhat in parallel.
Matthew joined Barambah Organics as Chief Executive on 1st October 2020 as Tanarra Capital acquired the business. Prior to joining Barambah Organics, Matthew had 20 years experience in C-Suite roles across the UK and Australia mainly in consumer branded businesses. In the UK Matthew worked at Anheuser Inbev and Emap/Bauer in CFO roles. In Australia he led ACP/Bauer the leading publishing business in Australia as CEO navigating the change from print to digital and then was Managing Director of Accolade Wines ANZ business.
